Quad rugby started at the U of A in 1989. After two years of competition the team folded as a result of insufficient numbers of eligible players. It started back up in 1992 and has been going strong ever since. An independent member of USQRA, the Wildchair ruggers play at select tournaments throughout the western region for their season.
Tournament destinations include: Phoenix, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Reno and Las Vegas. The team averages 24 games per year and has a great deal of competition with the Phoenix area teams. The University of Arizona hosted the 1999 South Central Wheelchair Rugby Sectionals. The Rugby squad also uses the North Gym of the Campus Recreational Center for practice and tournament play.
