History
It took a great deal of effort for our qualified young women to grow together as an athletic team during their first season in 2000-2001. women playing basketballHead coach Derek Brown, had a team consisting of a few women, although not all were experienced in the sport of basketball. Sport wheelchairs were purchased and gym space was set aside for a once a week practice. During the U of A's first season of competitive play, the Wildcats played in 11 games, but did not compete at the National Tournament.

Last Season
The Wildcats had a strong showing at the national tournament with 4 wins and 2 losses in the double elimination tournament. The wins were over the University of Alabama, Pittsburgh, Orlando. The two losses that knocked the Wildcats out of contention were against eventual #2 Texas and #3 RIC. Out of the 11 teams tournament, the Lady Wildcats finished 5th.

Today
This season the Ladies regular season schedule has 25-30 games on it. The games consist of competitions against both men's and women's basketball teams. The team now practices four days a week at the University of Arizona Campus Recreation Center. In addition, the Lady Wildcats are also involved in three days a week of strength and conditioning practices at the Disability Resource’s adaptive athletic gym. In preparation for nationals, the team will compete in tournaments in Arizona, California, Nevada, Texas, and Pennsylvania.

Future
The Disability Resources continues working with the University of Arizona to provide better scholarship opportunities for all athletes with disabilities. Progress has been made in the search for fee waivers and the DR is committed more scholarship dollars from its Foundation account. Because of these efforts the Wildcats will be in a position to actively recruit, provide more scholarships, and support the team all the way to the Nationals and beyond. Go Wildcats!
