Quad rugby started at the UA in the late 1980s and has been a popular sport here ever since. In the past, the team was composed of both community members and students. Recently, the team has changed to a focus on student athletes and will roster a team predominately made-up of students in the fall 2011 season. The team is a member of the USQRA. Athletes can expect to compete at two tournaments per semester, including one local tournament hosted by the University.
Players are required to attend multiple practices and weight lifting sessions throughout the week, and they are also required to maintain acceptable GPAs while attending school. Practices are held on campus at the Student Recreation Center, with weight lifting sessions in the Adaptive Gym at the Disability Resource Center. Athletes are required to provide their own equipment, but once on the team, the Adaptive Athletics Program maintains all equipment.
