Take a Trip to the Grand Canyon in September
Interested in adventure? Join our Faculty Fellow, Rick Bennett and DRC staff members on a camping trip to Northern Arizona: Grand Canyon National Park, and the San Francisco Volcanic Fields.
When: Friday, September 15 through Sunday September 17, 2017
Cost: $50 per student and includes transportation, food and park fees
This field trip will consist of a 3-day excursion culminating in a spectacular view of the Grand Canyon. Translated to English, the Latin phrase Ex libro lapidum, historia mundi means “from the book of rocks, the history of the Earth.” Few places on Earth expose the pages of our planet’s vast and varied history as vividly as the Grand Canyon, where layer upon layer of rock document three billion years of North American history.
Participants will depart Tucson early on a Friday morning and return to campus on Sunday evening. Participants will experience one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World (Grand Canyon), Arizona’s highest mountain peak (Mt. Humphreys), and an active (though not currently erupting) volcano (Sunset Crater), among other sights.
Participants will camp in accessible campsites in Matther Campground at Grand Canyon National Park. All phases of the field trip have been designed to maximize accessibility for all participants.
To Learn More, our first informational meeting will be held on: Thursday, August 31 at 4:00 pm in the DRC Lobby.
