Wildcats Headed to Nationals
TUCSON, Ariz., April 4, 2018 - The University of Arizona Adaptive Athletics Program is sending two teams to the 2018 National Championships this April.
The UA Wheelchair Men's Basketball Team will compete at the Kentucky Exhibition Center in Louisville, Kentucky from April 12 through April 15. The team is currently ranked fourth in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association Division I and ended season play with an overall record of 24-5.
"We've had a great season, with great victories and some tough setbacks. The team has grown greatly from October through April over the 29 games," said Head Basketball Coach Derek Brown. "We are going in ranked no. 4, but we will have tough matchups every round. Fortunately, we are peaking at this time of the season, both offensively and defensively. We have a great chance to make a title run, if we can keep up the momentum. With a great team and little fortune we can realize our ultimate goal."
UA Wheelchair Rugby is headed to Phoenix, Ariz. from April 19 through April 22 at the Ability 360 Center. The Wildcats are currently ranked no. 1 in the nation. The United States Quad Rugby Association consists of four sections, with UA placed in the Mountain section.
"The season started a little rough and we've had growing pains along the way," said Wheelchair Rugby Player Eric Bell. "Our first two tournaments we took two really hard losses, but we have overcame the early adversity and have really grown together as a team through the season. We are the no. 1 team going into Nationals and we expect to play in the championship game and hopefully will bring the cup back home to Tucson."
