Q. When should I complete the request form for live CART captioning?
A. When you receive a request for CART captioning from a Deaf or Hard of Hearing individual. When you know the date, time, and location of the event, submit the request.
Q. Where should I request live CART captioning for the event?
A. The Disability Resource Center website.
Q. What materials does the CART Captioner need to make the live captioning event successful?
A. To provide the best possible live captions, the CART Captioner needs speaker introductions/bios, speeches, PowerPoints, links for videos, webpage addresses, programs, pamphlets, schedules, and proper names.
Q. Why do CART Captioners need this information?
A. It is extremely helpful to receive advanced prep material such as spellings and subject matter ahead of time. Caption accuracy greatly increases with this information.
Q. Can we send live captions to a college’s webpage or Facebook?
A. Yes, this is live streaming and the CART Captioner can provide the captions through Zoom or StreamText.
Q. What is StreamText?
A. StreamText is a live captioning platform/server used specifically for delivering live captions to viewers on multiple devices, i.e., computer, tablet, smart phone.
Q. What are my live captioning options in Zoom?
A. Within Zoom, you can send live captions to Facebook Live, YouTube Live or Workplace for Facebook.
Q. When does the requester of services need to let the CART captioner know that they plan to live stream the event?
A. No later than 48 hours before the event.
Q. Does Panopto support live CART captioning?
A. Panopto does not support live captioning, but CART captioners can provide a StreamText link that can be made available and used on any mobile device.
