Preparation and practice are integral to creating a smooth transition into college life. The key is to begin by identifying the knowledge and skills that you already possess and then creating a plan to acquire the additional knowledge and skills needed for reaching the desired level of independence. In this module we will guide you in exploring aspects of your personal life that evolve as you transition into college. You will be encouraged to think about what you need to know and do as you take on more responsibility in managing your day-to-day life.

Points to Remember
Write a paragraph about what independence, as an adult, means to you and what skills you will need to achieve this. In what ways can you start to work towards your vision today. Does it start you thinking about either what services you need to have in place or what skills you need to improve upon to one day live independently? Talk to your peers and/or mentors about your independent living needs and goals, discuss their feedback.
