COM - Communication Access

ACCOMMODATION DESCRIPTION
Captioning All audio/visual materials should be captioned. Contact DRC (621-3268) for information/assistance.
CART (Communication Access Real-Time)  Stenographer present in-class to transcribe lecture in real-time.
DRC- Auto-captions (Live) Auto-generated captions enabled for live video including Zoom.
DRC - Auto-captions (Recordings) Auto-generated captions enabled for recorded videos.

ACCOMMODATION DESCRIPTION
Academic Aide In-class academic support person.
Assignment Extension

Students who periodically experience an unexpected disability related barrier to completing an assignment, may request an accommodation from DRC to submit work at an alternate time. All requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and in consultation with the course instructor. DRC staff will contact you to discuss your late work policy, and explore whether flexibility in a due date might be reasonable. 

Assistance Animal Student will have an animal companion in class. The animal's behavior will be well-controlled and it should not be a distraction. 
Attendance consideration

Attendance policy accommodation: Students who periodically experience absences related to a disability may seek an accommodation from DRC. All requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and in consultation with you, the course instructor.

DRC staff will consider the following to determine how class attendance relates to the educational experience for the course:

  • Course policy regarding attendance
  • Possible exceptions to the policy for extenuating circumstances, such as athletics or religious observation.
  • Levels of interactions required in the class. Student contribution/participation requirements for the learning process.
  • Student attendance is connected to a collaborative learning environment.
Disability Affiliation Student has affiliated with Disability Resources.  A DRC staff member will contact instructor to discuss the accommodation request.
Priority Seating Student may require particular seating location to access the course.
Opportunity to Stand Student may need to stand during class and will do so in a non-distracting way.
Opportunity to Leave Class The student may need to leave class occasionally for disability related reasons.

 TST - Testing Accommodations

Formula Sheet Use of a formula sheet on tests after faculty discussion to ensure no fundamental alteration of essential course requirements.
Individual Testing Plan (Testing Staff Only) Disability related circumstance requires an individual/unique testing accommodation. DRC staff will discuss options with the instructor before making arrangements for a student to test at DRC.
JAWS-Testing Use of JAWS screen reader to complete exams.
Large print-testing Large print copy of tests.
Minimal distraction Placement of student in less distracting location during exams.
Proctor-testing Complete exam with a reader/scribe.
Project Focus The student is affiliated with Project Focus.
Refreshable Braille Use of refreshable Braille hardware for testing.
Scantron assistance Ability to record answers on exam.  Staff will complete the scantron to reflect answers provided on the exam.
Screen Magnification Use of computer screen magnification software.
Separate Space Student tests in an alternate area, away from main testing room.
Separate Space (V) Student tests in an individual space to speak aloud during exams.
Tablet Use of touchscreen tablet to write exams.
Text-to-speech-Testing Electronic copy of test to be used on computer with text to speech software.
Word Processor Use of computer word processor (non-Internet) to type exam answers.
