Students with disabilities can request accessible e-text and captioned media for their courses. DRC staff may outreach to instructors to inquire about course content and ensure accessibility.
Course Documents
DRC provides academic content to students in an accessible “e-text” or electronic document format. These documents can easily be modified to be used with assistive technology such as magnification, text-to-speech, screen reading software, etc.
Course Media
DRC provides professional captioning for course media which ensures students have access to audio content.
Ensuring accessible course materials
- Include detailed reading schedules in course syllabi.
- Ask publishers/vendors about accessibility of pre-packaged/third-party software used for homework solutions, assignments, assessments, etc.
- Contact DRC’s IT Accessibility Team for consultation.
- Select accessible readings, such as journal articles, by accessing/downloading files directly from the University of Arizona Library resources.
- Create accessible documents and presentations.
- Consider adopting an open education resource (OER).
- Select captioned videos.
- When showing a clip in class, enable captions.
- Consider using auto-generated captions in Zoom and Panopto.
